Maria Palacio starting dancing at a young age with ballet and jazz. Over time her passion for dance grew into other styles like flamenco, traditional latin dances and more, performing at local latin festivals in South Carolina. One day she saw a flyer offering bellydance classes at a local gym. She started taking classes and was soon hooked. She studied traditional oriental dance "raq sharqi", American Tribal Style (ATS) and tribal fusion. She became a member of Delirium Tribal, a tribal bellydance troupe in Columbia, SC. A few years afterwards, Maria pursued here solo career. She is most known for combining her spanish heritage and flamenco flare into her bellydance style. She continues her dance education through workshops, having taken classes from Amy Sigil of Unmata, Mira Betz, Mahsati Janan, Yasmine and many more.
2010 is an exciting year for Maria. She hosted her first bellydance workshop / show January 16 & 17. She will be bring Mahsati Janan in June and Megha of Devyani in August. She will also host a show in combination with the workshop. Maria goal is to continue to bring quality instructors to the Columbia area throughout the year. She wants to unite the bellydance dance community not only in Columbia but throughout SC and the surrounding states.
Maria is also the director of Serpentine Bellydance Company, a fusion bellydance troupe. Current troupe members are Miranda, Amanda & Mindy. Keep an eye out for this troupe. They will be performing throughout SC, NC and GA.
